The Foundation of Expertise
A Kolkata-born visionary, Ashit Kumar Sikdar arrived in Delhi with big dreams and engineering talent. He joined the industrial division of Singer as a mechanical engineer, where he quickly rose through the ranks to become the Head of the Engineering Department.
Over the next 22 years, he earned the reputation of “Most Reliable Engineer”, gaining deep expertise in sewing machine manufacturing, servicing, and mechanical precision — skills that would later shape the future of BSM India.
When the industrial division of Singer India shut down in 1984, it marked both an end and a beginning.
With decades of hands-on experience and industry respect behind him, Ashit Kumar Sikdar founded Bengal Sewing Machinery (BSM) — a bold new venture focused on trading and servicing 5–6 types of industrial sewing machines.
Driven by skill, vision, and a commitment to engineering excellence, BSM began its journey as a trusted service provider in India’s textile and stitching equipment space — laying the groundwork for what would later become a leader in footwear making machines.
By 1994, BSM India had built a strong foundation with a growing network of over 1,000 satisfied customers and a diverse portfolio of more than 25 industrial sewing machines. What started as a service-focused business had quickly evolved into a trusted machinery supplier, known for its technical reliability and honest, responsive support.
This early success reflected Mr. Ashit Kumar Sikdar’s vision—to provide high-quality machinery backed by long-term service partnerships, empowering Indian manufacturers to compete at a global level. In 1996, a new chapter began as Mr. Manoj Sikdar joined the company, bringing fresh energy and a clear vision for growth. This period was the true turning point for BSM. Transitioning from general industrial sewing machines, the company began to specialize in a full spectrum of footwear making machines — including lasting, stitching, cutting, and finishing systems. In 2005, BSM India took a strategic leap by collaborating with leading international footwear machinery manufacturers. In 2008, the company expanded aggressively, setting up a powerful distributor network in India’s top footwear manufacturing hubs — including Agra, Kanpur, Kerala, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bangalore.
